/ SFSL Summer Camp Handbook
Our Mission Statement and Vision
SFSL
provides Musketeers Summer Camp program to help working parents
and to provide fun activities for children ages 5 to 14 entering
grades K-8th.
Our
Mission Statement is to:
Help our youth with the biggest game of all,
LIFE!
Our
vision at Musketeer/SFSL Summer Camp is to:
Provide a safe, healthy, and fun-filled summer
for our campers. With a caring staff, a stimulating camp environment,
great activities, and a place to just have fun. In doing so we
will give our campers the opportunity to grow through our programs;
physically, mentally, and socially while creating memorable life
experiences.
CAMP DIRECTOR
SFSL has been creating wonderful memories and challenging
adventures for children for over 5 years with our sports programs.
This year we will introduce our newest program Musketeers / SFSL
Summer Camp at St. Theresa Catholic School. SFSL is a 501-c-3
non-profit organization and operating since 2002.
To
ensure that our vision and goals are achieved, SFSL has hired
not one but two camp directors Mr. Paul Di Muont and Mr. Juan
Parente. Both of these gentlemen have their professional degree
in Political Science from University of Florida for Paul Di Muont
and a degree in Physical Education from Florida International
University for Juan Parente, along with his bachelor from FIU.
Mr. Parente has his master degree in education leadership from
Nova University. Both of these gentlemen have an extensive early
childhood education experience, leadership and a lifetime of experience
and dedication to caring for children.
They
both demonstrate their devotion to children on a daily basis through
their camp spirit, program guidance, staff involvement, enthusiastic
instruction, and parent communications. We are confident that
Musketeer Summer Camp will offer your child the safest and most
exciting program possible.
CAMP STAFF
Musketeer Summer Camp prides itself in the safe,
fun-filled environment, which it provides for its campers. Our
campers to counselor ratios are kept low in an effort to maintain
safety. Also, we only employ counselors who demonstrate a high
degree of responsibility, outstanding enthusiasm for the campers,
and a special talent beneficial to the camp program. All the counselors
undergo a background check, a training/orientation process and
are taught to respect the individual needs of each camper.

your children (s). The sign in/sign out log will be dated for
each day and maintained with other permanent records. This policy
was adopted to provide the safest environment for your child.
DISCIPLINE
GUIDELINES
Children need instruction more than they need criticism.
Discipline means training which enables the child to develop self-control
and orderly conduct in relationship to peers and adults. Discipline
shall be clear and understandable to the child, consistent, and
explained to the child before and at the time of any disciplinary
action. Discipline shall include positive guidance, redirection,
and the setting of clear-cut limits, which foster the child’s
own ability to become self-disciplined. Our discipline practices
are designed to encourage the child to be fair, honest, and caring;
to respect property, and to assume personal responsibility and
responsibility for others.
BEHAVIOR EXPECTATIONS
Children in the program are expected to conduct
themselves in a manner that is
cooperative with the group. Efforts are made by the Musketeer
Summer camp staff to work within the appropriate social developmental
stages for each individual child.
However, a child’s consistent refusal to follow directions
given to them by the counselors creates an atmosphere that is
disruptive to the program and will not be tolerated. If redirection
is not effective and or if a child has a consistent and or serious
disciplinary problem.
The
following steps will be taken:
1. When the Camp Counselor determines that there is a problem
and is unable to get the child to respond to verbal redirection,
no more than two behavior reports will be documented and presented
to the parents to review and sign.
2. After two documented behavior reports, if the child’s
behavior continues to be disruptive; a meeting will be set up
with the camp director, child’s counselor, and the parents.
The purpose of this meeting will be to determine why the child
is having difficulty and what efforts might be made by the site
staff, parents and child to find a possible solution. In some
instances, at the director’s discretion, the child may not
be allowed to attend camp until a conference is held.
3. If the child’s behavior continues to be disruptive to
the program, the Musketeer Summer camp reserves the right to withdraw
the child from the program. A child may be withdrawn from the
program, without prior warning, for any behavior and or verbal
threats that jeopardize the safety of themselves and or other
children.

ATTIRE
Children should come to camp dressed for the day(s)
activities and prepared for
changing weather conditions. Sneaker’s shoes, socks, swimsuits,
towels, sunscreen,
and a hat are among the items needed. Please check the daily schedule.

surface for identification. Any clothing left behind will be placed
in Lost & Found. In addition, all children should come with
a water bottle to promote hydration throughout their daily activities.
